Switching contacts are found in contactors, relays, push-buttons and switches. They are the most demanding electrical contacts, as they often have to maintain their mechanical and electrical properties over many millions of switching cycles.

The contactor is an electrically or pneumatically actuated or electronic switch for high outputs and is similar to a relay. The contactor recognises two switching positions and normally switches monostable without special precautions.
